The Tunisian date, traditionally known as the 'shining light', is the king of dates, a dessert date that is highly regarded worldwide. It is known as THE DATE for its naturally blonde colour, gentle flavour and soft flesh. It is the equivalent of Champagne in wine and is the only brand in Tunisia that can be sold on the branch. Dates are particularly rich in minerals, including potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus and vitamins A and B. Minerals help to improve blood flow. They also contain magnesium and dietary fibre, which collect water in the intestines and have a regulating effect on the bowel, increasing beneficial bacteria. Calcium, phosphorus and other nutrients are essential for bone and brain growth and development, and are therefore recommended for young children. Anti-oxidant minerals and vitamins such as zinc are also helpful in the prevention of ageing (anti-ageing). They are also high in glucose and other carbohydrates and can be used to make natural yeast for making confectionery and bread. They are very sweet but contain no cholesterol. These are semi-dried dates and should be stored in the refrigerator if not consumed immediately or during the summer months. They will taste good for a long time if refrigerated.
